22/12/2006 Self, Individuality, UniquenessWe are all unique in some way. Anything can be called unique purely based upon the fact that it is a separate item. What is important is the sense of self. This sense is not individuality nor uniqueness itself, but the presence of mind to detect ones choices as being ones own. Many small minded people are afraid that their sense of self may be taken away or altered in some negative way by some unknown variable. This can be a piece of technology or even a hypnotist. I am here to tell you that you have very little to fear, if anything.
A background on uniqueness is required to fully understand your risk. It is relatively recent information compared to the centuries old wisdom of the past. It starts with your parents joining and combining their DNA to make you, a unique genetic life form. Your genes are what makes your body look and function the way it does. The reason your genes are unique is because the DNA from your mother and father (or other) are mixed in a process that tries to mix genes randomly. This happens when there are many genes that can do the job, but you don't need so many.
Your genes do most of the work of creating order, but you are also affected by the amount of nutrition you receive. If you do not get enough of a certain substance, you will become a different person from what was meant. If you get too much of a certain substance, you could become a different person. Many nutritional problems can be fixed at almost any stage in your development, so people do not panic as much. Also, nutrition has become well regulated almost everywhere, so you will usually be a healthy individual.
Nutrition and DNA are not the only things that can affect you. You are also altered by the world around you. In the early stages of development you usually don't have much sense of self except for how your body reacts to things on its own. As you grow older, you start deciding how to react to things based on frivolous and misinformed thought processes. Most peoples sense of self is derived from one of the two, either body reaction or faulty logic. How your body reacts to things is programmed into you from birth, and sometimes affected by childhood trauma. When you make a frivolous decision you are making a choice based on what you feel or observe.
Society plays an important role in who you are. This works because the brain accepts both factual and behavioral information and also creates new facts by combining the two. For instance, if your table is set with a fork on the right and knife on the left, you may think it's odd if someone elses table is set with a spork on the left and a straw on the right. You may even come to the conclusion that it is a bad practice. If you grow up in a catholic society and move to a buddhist society, you may decide that buddhists are evil or something.
Identity is made up of several things, but those things are not your identity. Your identity is your sense of self, or self image, and how others perceive you. Being afraid of losing your identity is like being afraid of trying a new food because you're afraid you might like it. When you add a new food into your diet, you gain a label. This label changes what others think of you and how you think of yourself. Buying a new -different looking car changes your image a lot. In effect, you lose your identity every time something about you changes. You might get a new job, get a haircut, decide you like a different drink, decide to lose weight, etc.
Now that that's out of the way, I'd like to reccommend something to you. Don't worry about yourself. Think about the impact you have on the world around you. Don't be afraid of change for the better. Take more time to consider who you would like to be instead of who you are. Always try to be a better person, don't settle into a rut. Hopefully you aren't a child abusing womanizer who's afraid to give it up because you'll lose your identity.
Along with that, here's a world of caution. It can be easier to change who you are without trying. This is often a bad thing. Always consider who you are and what you're becoming because if you don't, you might become a monster. People don't think during casual social interaction, the primal parts of the brain tend to take over. These primal parts of the brain often focus on dominance issues and violence and fear tactics are usually a result. Don't simply go with the flow. Analyze the flow and decide whether you'd like to be a part of it before jumping in. You may thank yourself later. 19/12/2006 Free Society MoneyContrary to some peoples beliefs, living in a free society doesn't completely mean living without money. In fact, there may not become a day in which a free society exists without money. The scenario would require that no other type of civilization exists. People living in a free society are not all hippies and layabouts, and they are not too stupid to handle their bank accounts. A free society is a cultural upgrade the way a pocket calculator was an upgrade to the banking industry.
So, you may ask, where does all the money go, and where does it come from? The answer is simple. The average Joe doesn't want to worry about money, and many people have money problems. The free community will simply use only trained professionals and enthusiasts to handle money. If you really want to work with money and you're really good at it, you will be an asset to the community.
The free society currently needs people to work in order to make the society able to sustain its own growth. This means many policies will be created to encourage people to take jobs. I will now describe some possible ways to help stimulate employment rates to increase, and I must also state that there it is actually easier to create stable job bases in a free society than in a money society.
If you are jobless, you are put into the "untapped resources" category. If you stay in this category long enough, people will become concerned. Employers will send you "junk mail" asking to hire you based on your qualifications, or based on your potential. There will always be jobs that need to grow to fill demand. These companies need more and more people helping in order to effectively meet this growing demand. If they are given permission to expand, they will be given access to the otherwise private unemployment records within a given distance related to the needs of the company. For many people, this is enough of an annoyance, but some people are stubborn. In the case of the stubborn people, people of the community will visit them and give them attention.
Extensive job avoidance is silly and probably requires some kind of psyciatry. There are no lazy people who don't want to work. Lazy people are a myth. Even lazy people do things that can be turned into a job. If someone is having a problem finding a job, a counselor must be available to help. Some people have medical conditions that don't allow them to work in a way they want. This often can't be avoided, but such people can find jobs as test subjects, telephone operators, or even a friendly ear in the community. Free Society FailsafesAs part of my mission, I charge myself to further the cause of a moneyless society. Recently I have been researching the history of money all the way back to the source. It turns out that money is not the root of the problem, trade is the root. The whole modern valuation system is constricting the advancement of society.
Here's what I'm talking about: Say you have two people who have the same amount of money and the same goods. One person is fat and the other person is skinny. The two people sit next to eachother during lunch. The thin person doesn't eat all of the food, and the fat person feels hungry afterwards. It is human nature to notice the possible waste, so the fat person will ask the thin person for the extra food.
Now say there are two people, one is rich and the other is poor. They both get the same income and they both take the same resources. The rich person decides to get a new television set after the old TV breaks. The thing is, the poor person's TV also breaks. Now we have an imbalance.
Next, lets compare two companies of the same size. One company has more money than the other. Both companies experience increased demand. The wealthier company devotes more money toward resources and research, while the poorer company buys only a small amount of resources. Now the wealthier company is in the lead and it pushes into the poorer company's consumer base.
Here's a different scenario, there are two people out on the street. One is tough and the other is weak. They both go to a place that gives people one free meal per day. The tougher person threatens to beat the weaker person up in order to get the other person's food.
Enter the (growing) free society:
The free society will be in a state of growth for a long time. It is, however, a dominant form of society, and here I will describe just how dominant. A free society can, however, exist within any other society. It can be adapted to suit any customs and beliefs, and it can also be made to be nearly invisible. The free society exists within a structure that allows things that are restricted within normal society, and it makes impossible many of the problems faced by modern society. Here I will describe many of the points that I have not previously explained.
The free society is governed in a series of localized checks and balances. Each major system has several corresponding subsystems such as manufacturing, quality control, research, and a general policymaking department to tie the rest together. There are also adaptable quota and law enforcement systems. Since everything is free, quotas and law enforcement share less things in common with modern law enforcement. The core of the free society is proper government. Rules are made to be broken, and there is no exception here. When a rule needs to be bent or disregarded, the members of the community have to vote. This is most common in the area of laws and quotas.
Quotas are a regulated supply system. This system is meant to be non-constrictive and all-encompassing. If someone needs less goods, they file a status report with the community and get their quota reduced. If someone needs more goods, they file a request form and their needs are assessed. Community law enforcement makes sure no one is given too much or too little. Also, periodical large-scale checks are made by the community assessment oversight systems.
Law enforcement is affected by the change in values. Since things don't cost money, punishment for theft is not as severe. In fact, because anyone can get almost anything replaced within days, people are less apt to report the loss of goods that hold little or no value. There is also a tentative private investigation system in which theives are chased down and goods are seized as part of a game in case people get bored. Since there is no crime ring of people who smuggle things to sell for a higher amount, the theif has little else to do with the goods. This makes theft no longer such a terrible crime all around. Although illegal drugs are more severe of an issue, the system will handle this in a similar way, but since people are generally happy and drugs are no longer able to be sold, drug use will eventually become less severe and the bulk of the problems arising from the issue will go away.
The community is very important in this whole thing. There is a maximum community size, so there will be many communities in large cities. This is to standardize the voting structure in order to avoid problems resulting from, for example, large states and small states. The community is made up of volunteers who are very interested in improving the wellbeing of the community. The amount of members on the board is automatically made up of the whole community, but a small group of members is appointed by the people for complex tasks such as communicating with national policymakers and reporting to oversight committees. They will also be responsible for handing out important policy related information to the local subunits of the community.
Voting is an integral part of any government. Every large country needs to have some sort of concensus agreement. Every member of society is important to the decisions that can be made without regard to safety. Things such as major development and major decisions like conjoining of communities or even the absorbtion of trade-countries into the free society structure. Voting is not only for decision making. It has many important purposes. When you vote, even if your vote doesn't seem to count, it helps to put things into perspective beyond the simple yes/no decision. If 1/3 of people vote for chocolate ice cream and the rest vote for vanilla ice cream, the company may not stop producing chocolate, but simply produce 1/3 chocolate to 2/3 vanilla.
Voting for national and international representatives is part of the ratio. If the vote is too close, the reps need to either work together or pass a group of tests to see who is best fit for the job. 15/12/2006 Quick 3D Graphics CreationI have been thinking about various methods of quick 3D model creation for several weeks time and I have finally chosen one. The method may or may not be unique, as I have not spent much time at all with 3D modelling programs. In fact, it could be something entirely different from the norm, but it suits the purposes of game development perfectly. Here, I will explain it to you in detail.
As you may know, a 3D model is a 3D shape that is composed of several flat surfaces. These surfaces can have images on them, called textures, just like a 2D drawing surface, but in 3D it looks a bit different. Images on a 3D model are called textures because they add a sense of texture to the flat surfaces they are drawn on. Nowdays, a good computer can make the illusion of texture purely by using polygons and blank surfaces, but that's another story.
Most 3D games are made up of 3D models. They are not exactly precise, and they can be of a wide variety of shapes and sizes. There are a few rules about 3D models that you should know. One is that a 3D model has to move every part of itself in exactly the same way based on a centerpoint. Another is that a model can't pay attention to other models. When you see a 3D game, you may see a character or creature that seems to have multiple models moving around separately. This illusion is produced by using several models that look just a little bit different. This is called an animation, as you may know. Animations are quite common in 2D and 3D programs. It is normally a lot of hard work to simply make a 3D model by itself, but there are several (currently very expensive) programs that allow artists to create very animated objects in very complex ways. There is one downside to all of these animated models, and that is their size. Animations are huge, but their origins are noble, they were created as a way to make programs run more quickly.
I myself don't look forward to animating 3D models. I also don't have the $800+ nor do I feel the programs would help me enough compared to what I can already do for free. My program can't make animations, but it can make textured models very easily, and it even does something I haven't heard of before, it allows you to paint the finished model in 3D. These features are all I really need, because of some of the additional features of graphics programming. You see, I can make simple models work together by rotating them and positioning them very carefully, and I can use a little trick that anyone can figure out. The trick is to cover up the seams between models by drawing simple flat surfaces (instead of polygons) that act like flexible seals from one model to another. An example of this would be skin. I can use a sphere as the elbow, and patch the empty spots between the sphere elbow and the cylinders used for the other two segments of the arm by drawing these flat surfaces between there. Of course, this won't be done in my editor, it'll be done very carefully by me.
My 3D editor allows you to create a sphere of 'virtual clay' and decide how many points you want on it. Since it is difficult to calculate surfaces, you can't add or subtract individual points, so you'll have to be inventive. What you can do is move a point anywhere you want, and when you're finished, you can paint it in 3D. I don't know about 3D modelling programs, but I don't remember seeing this feature. It works by calculating the size of each surface after you've finished molding, and calculating where each point would be on a flat surface. Then, it calculates the position of the mouse (or whatever) and fills in color based on the relative positioning between points.
Bad news, I haven't finished at the time of writing this, but if you're interested and you've figured out how to email me, feel free to ask. If I don't reply within a couple days, something may be wrong with the email system, or your message did not have the proper information (no spam allowed). |
